So, from sitting in a (very nice) coffee shop with no plans on Saturday lunchtime to sitting in my (not very nice) office chair on Monday morning seems to have gone by very quickly...

Despite the fact that it sold out weeks ago, I tried for tickets for Saturday night's Be Good Tanyas gig at the City Halls. It turned out that they had just released a few more seats, so I snapped one up (it turned out to be a temporary chair shoved into one of the wheelchair spaces which hadn't sold, at the back of the stalls with a great view and lots of leg room).

I put out the word that I was going, and had an invite to dinner before with one group of friends, and drinks afterwards with another. Dinner was fine, but would have been better if I hadn't already had lasagne at 3 o'clock before I got the invite to eat at 5.30. Still, I'll be back to Market Central, I think. Good food and good atmosphere, even though they were madly busy because they'd had a good write up in the Herald on Saturday.

The band were excellent - I hadn't seen them live before, and didn't really know their stuff (beyond their cover of "When Doves Cry"). I think they fall somewhere between The Dixie Chicks and The Cowboy Junkies. Traces of Twang, and a little bit of hush. It's not often I complain about crowds being too quiet, but this lot were just too respectful, too folk club, too gin and catatonic for me. Completely quiet during the songs, restrained in their applause between them. I think they sucked a lot of the life out of a band who were already quite nervous. I hope the Tanyas come back to Glasgow, and I hope they play The Barrowlands.

Afterwards I met up with my friends who'd been at the gig, and we had drinks at the bar above Gandolfi's. I liked it, though it was probably too busy (Saturday night, d'uh). They mixed a pretty good Manhattan, though, and I was pretty surprised that it was after one when I got home.

On Sunday I was up early to watch Andy Murray in the Australian Open final. He lost in four sets, if you didn't see it, but confirmed to me that he is currently the second best player in the world, and still improving. I look forward to watching him in the rest of the Slams this year.

After the game I got out to the gym, did some soaking and some sweating, and got back in time to watch Celtic lose to Saint Mirren in the League Cup semi-final. It was a boring game, but I managed to get some emailing done while it was on (and even did some work).

Then it was time to stoke up on coffee and go see Django Unchained at the Grosvenor. I really enjoyed the movie. Yes, it was long, but it didn't feel long, and yes, it was very bloody, but it should have been. Inevitably it had a touch of the Blazing Saddles about it, but I can't see that as a bad thing. And two great performances from the leads, too.

Go see it, make up your own minds.

And that was my accidental weekend...

Now I want lasagna.

I also kind of want to see "Django Unchained," but not necessarily $12 worth. I may wait for that one to reach HBO or the like.

I think it works best on the big screen - but wouldn't put you off seeing it on DVD.
