I don't often have anything good to say about religion, so it seems appropriate, today of all days, to thank the people of Islam for the art, the science, the poetry and the philosophy that they have given and keep giving to the world. It must be hard when atrocities take place in the name of your Prophet, peace be upon him. The true victim yesterday was a single brave soldier, and I'm hoping that the criminals who killed him are made to stand trial so that we can hear how they know nothing about the faith they profess to have been inspired by. I was brought up in the 70's, when Catholics and Protestants were killing each other and the police and army, and innocent bystanders on UK soil in the name of my god. The IRA made me ashamed to be a Catholic. They didn't blow up toddlers in their prams in my name, but I still felt ashamed. As an adult, I'm no longer a Catholic and I'm no longer ashamed, but I know how many Moslems must be feeling today. Nobody won yesterday. Nobody ever wins, when people kill in the name of god.
