I'm currently trying to balance working in three cities (Glasgow, Edinburgh and Inverness) with the gigging opportunities of Celtic Connections in Glasgow. I had a great time at Travis on Saturday (first concert at the Barrowlands for a while, and it still rocks. And bounces) and this week I have R.M. Hubbard, Peatbog Fairies and James Grant. Oh, and a Bon Voyage on Saturday to my friends Eric and Linsey, who are heading off for New York State soon.

Next week is Lloyd Cole, and very probably something else will come up - it's that sort of Festival. I'd like to get to the after hours club some night, if I have the stamina.

Work is also busy. I'm getting much more involved in Inverness, and seem on the unfortunate verge of becoming a key player. Dammit, I hate when that happens. On the bright side, this locked my being called to Slough for another project. I don't want to go to Slough.

Health has been fine, except... I'm off for an EKG this afternoon, at the request of my GP. I'm not expecting this to be a problem, but it's hard to be cool about something as fundamental as my heart. I'm trying not to get caught up in "what ifs" but it's not easy, and I had hospital dreams last night.

Once I get those results, though, booking for Holiday 5-0 flights will begin. Well, hopefully.

Depending on whether I fly through London or not that will be either 5 or 7 flights in 14 days, which is a pretty packed programme, but I'm hoping do a layover in San Francisco before spending 5-7 days on a beach in Hawaii before heading back via Houston and Manhattan. Or maybe start in New York and finish in Hawaii. I'm nothing if not flexible.

Planning for one is a lot easier than planning for two, and it's going to be a whole different sort of holiday from any I've had since, uh, 1993. Interesting times, people, interesting times...

Let me know if you want ideas for your time in San Francisco and/or Hawaii: the former is home, the latter is my childhood vacation home.

I think I'm in safe hands in SF, but I'll definitely take you up on Hawaii advice. I have friends staying on the North Coast of Kauai, and I'm looking for somewhere nice to stay there.

I don't know too much about hotels on the North Shore, but I can recommend going to hear the slack guitarists Doug and Sandy McMaster, if they are in town (Hanalei, that is). They put on a good, mellow show.
