Feeling nostalgic for a movement that's only just hit the Gruaniad is probably a little perverse, but this article did remind me of reading The Difference Engine on a train to Anniesland College, where my girlfriend had taken a course on computing, which resulted in her totting about bundles of punched cards.

But I had an eerily similar experience reading The Difference Engine back in the day. I was on business travel to a convention where the hotel rooms had punchcards for keys!
