A fantastic weekend, so far. On Friday we had two guests arrive for the weekend from France, and then a couple of hours or so later another 10 or so friends for an impromptu party. I'd originally intended joining [livejournal.com profile] psychochicken  and others at the Bon  for his birthday celebration, and taking Charles and Matilde along with us, and then Kay and James asked what we were doing, and then Mike and Marie said they'd be coming over from Edinburgh, and then Eric and Lindsay wanted to come from the South Side, and Paul T said he'd come straight from the airport... So we ended up hosting drinks and nibbles instead, drinks from the wine rack and nibbles from [livejournal.com profile] unblinkered , and it turned into the best sort of party, one you haven't planned for. There were friends I've known for nearly thirty years, and some I've known for months, and everyone seemed to get along well. It was lovely to be able to turn around and fall into any conversation with delight.
The booze must have been good, since I only had a teensy wee hangover, and next morning our guests had washed up and tidied before we woke up. We breakfasted on lots of cheese, and then they headed out to explore while unblinkered and I went off to be commercial. I want say much about that, since it's her news, but all went very well. We met Kay and James afterwards for coffee, did some light shopping in Byres Road (I bought about 5 CDs, to add to my birthday gifts) and then home to watch the rugby.
I was quite encouraged by Scotland's performance. They aren't there yet, but they showed odd flashes of endeavour. They are creating chances - if they start taking them, they may even win a game or two next season. England were dire - mouthy, violent, bereft of ambition. So a draw was always on the cards.
Last night we headed down to Ashton lane. Well, when you have French guests what else are you going to do but take them for a curry? The Wee Curry shop was well up to scratch. I had my usual spiced haddock and then a lime and ginger chicken dish, which was excellent - it's the same dish they normally do with king prawn, though, and my taste buds got a little confused.
By the end of dinner everyone was yawning, so I abandoned the idea of taking them on the The Chip or Oran Mor, and came straight back to the flat for a nightcap and a reasonably early night.
This morning the plan is breakfast at Northstar in Queen Margaret Drive, then a jaunt out to Loch Lomond, possibly taking in the Hill House on the way back. Unblinkered has volunteered to stay home and cook the massive leg of lamb we got for Mother's Day, and I'm picking up my mum around three. Quite happy to do the driving today - my liver will appreciate the rest...
